Make a Donation, Make a Difference

Since October 1992, The Recovering Communities of Step Ahead (RCOSA) has provided safe, sober, and reasonably affordable housing to those new to recovery. Generous donations make it possible for RCOSA to provide individual and group counseling, educational groups, 12-step meetings, and other therapies at the homes.

RCOSA is proudly a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax-exempt organization; our focus is on recovery, not profits. We are a recovery community of newly sober residents located in the lakefront community of Edgewater, IL, providing reasonably priced sober living with an exceptional program sponsored in part by our generous supporters.

Recovery is a life-long process; therefore, we created the uniquely inclusive RCOSA Recovery Community sober living facility with groups and recovery sessions to prepare the residents for long-term recovery. The donations provided give us more groups and special events that introduce our residents to the sober community.

Please consider a monthly recurring donation.

RCOSA’s Annual Fundraiser Dinner : November 7, 2023

Well, our annual fundraising dinner 2023 has come and gone.  What lingers is our deep appreciation for the outpouring of support and financial contributions that were extended on that special evening.

A special thanks to the Basil Leaf team and Sean Tehreni for the exceptional hosting.

Post-event giving is still possible through Venmo (rcosachicago@gmail.com), PayPal, or by checks direct to the PO Box.

TOGETHER, we will continue to deliver substance through services and hope through healing.

The Tommy O. Memorial Scholarship Program

On January 14, 2024, our dear friend and RCOSA Alum Tommy O. passed away as a result of this disease of alcoholism. I have been the Founder-Executive Director of RCOSA since its’ inception on October 17, 1992.  I have had my share of bad news delivered to me: another good man goes down to this cunning, baffling, and powerful disease. It is never a good call to get and each time I have a mix of anger and sadness- especially for those left behind.

The main thing I can do, and I believe those of us in recovery can do, is to keep going on with increased effort and determination to, one day at a time, live this amazing sober life in memory of those we lost.

Tommy O was a great guy. He would do anything for anyone at any time. We are all saddened by this loss, and if RCOSA can help prevent even one alcoholic or addict from succumbing to this insidious disease, then it may, in the final analysis, have some meaning and purpose.

I  would like to thank The O’Neill family, Tom, and Mary Ann especially, and all of their amazing family members and friends for supporting RCOSA with the establishment of The Tommy O. Memorial Scholarship Program. This program will provide many potential RCOSA residents who perhaps cannot afford RCOSA, or who have been a resident and suddenly have experienced financial hardship, the ability and opportunity to be at RCOSA and to experience what Tommy did when he lived here with us. Some say it may have been one of the happier times of his life. Long live Ted Lasso and Slava.
